The annual elementary school Field Days are quickly approaching us, and quite honestly, we’re ready for it! As the long winter drag comes to an end, Field Day gives young kids an exciting opportunity to enjoy the first days of warm weather, stretch their legs and get moving, and compete against their classmates in fun outdoor games.

Field Day, sometimes referred to as “Sports Day,” is an event held by elementary schools in which kids take part in outdoor sporting activities with the aim of winning trophies or prizes. Many of these activities include egg and spoon races, three legged relays, and sack races. Aside from just the races, there are also some more intense games for our competitive little ones such as capture the flag, beanbag toss, and the frisbee throw. Activities such as face painting, parachute, and bake sales are included as well for kids who may be a little less sports-minded than others, but who doesn’t love face painting?

Often on Field Day, students of different classrooms and grade levels are given team names, mascots, and the treasured field day t-shirts to prepare for a full day of fun! This alone gives children the pride of being a team player. Winning trophies and medals just tacks on more fun for the kids, as well as give them a sense of accomplishment, not only for themselves, but also for their supportive teammates.

Overall, Field Day is an awesome way to motivate our growing children to get outside, have fun, and be a good sport!
